Mona Tian is a violinist based in Los Angeles. A graduate of California Institute of the Arts in violin performance, she has studied under Lorenz Gamma and Mark Menzies. Mona made her first solo debut at the age of 8. She was accepted by the pre-college division of Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing at the age of 10. Two years later, she was accepted with full scholarship to Idyllwild Arts Academy, studied under Todor Pelev, Peter Askim, Ransom Wilson, John Walz and the Calder Quartet. She was the youngest member accepted by Larry Livingston to join the Idyllwild Summer Festival Orchestra which performs at Walt Disney Concert Hall annually. Mona is an original member of the Pacifica Red Coral ensemble (string quartet with harp); The ensemble is appointed by Pulitzer award finalist, Avant-Garde Jazz composer and trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith. Mona is currently touring the Pulitzer award nominated Ten Freedom Summers by Wadada Leo Smith. Mona has performed with two times Grammy Award winning ensemble Southwest Chamber music, The Code International, Wadada Leo Smith’s Golden Quartet, Debut Orchestra, and well-known musicians such as Timothy Fain, John Walz, Vinny Golia, John Lindberg, Pheeroan Aklaff, Anthony Davis, Wadada Leo Smith, Shalini Vijayan, Miguel Atwood Ferguson, Anthony Brown, Kevin Olusola and more. Mona has performed at the Walt Disney Concert Hall (L.A.), Mostra SESC de Artes (São Paulo), Roulette Theater (NYC), REDCAT (L.A.), The Industry (L.A.), Bootleg Theater (L.A.), Congress Center Saalfelden (Austria), Pritzker Pavilion(Chicago), Mack Sennette Studios (L.A.), Atlas Theater (Washington DC) and more. In addition of performing, Mona is currently a teaching artist at Harmony Project.
Besides playing music, Mona is also a part time film maker.
